All for Love of Mom

This morning was our second Haiku Friday and it was a blast. Again, I’m struck by how simple and lively haiku makes us feel. Three simple steps. And they smile big.

Besides rocking out with the beautiful Margaux and the batch of tiny writers that paid us a visit, the visitor that stood out was this one guy. So thin, tattooed and lovely, while he was ordering juice, I was writing him a poem. I couldn’t get the last line till after we spoke. I noticed he had thirteen marks on his right arm. The kind of tics you mark off five at a time, where you cross diagonally the fifth. Anyway, he shared that he gets a mark every year to mark the years passed since his mother’s death. How insanely beautiful. And then I had the poem:
Tattoos on his legs
Thirteen marks on his right arm
All for love of mom
