![]() Today was Haiku Friday. You didn’t know?! Lemme tell you about it. I want to share what happened as I received support from my friend Margaux for my first Haiku Friday event. Margaux is a generous love & the owner of Best Friend Coffee & Juice Cart on SE 12th & Division. She graciously invited me to do a haiku workshop at her cart and what happened was really really special… I arrived feeling very shy. Like a first grader setting up my construction paper and gold duct tape haikus. I hid my donation jar behind a basket... writing haiku to myself and smiling cautiously to people as they walked by. Despite my awkwardness, what started happening as people approached was the sweetest thing ever. People joined me at the picnic table and let me lead them through a process to center on a feeling they could haiku about. As the table filled, poets emerged from the timid first-timers. I invited them to read or ‘’perform’’ their poem and when they did, everyone around clapped and cheered. Stunning poem after stunning poem emerged! But beyond that, community and connection were deep, real, and lasting. How freakin' sweet! Here are some images from this bright shiny day:
