Meditative Tea Ceremony & Sound Bath

Picture
This evening begins with a meditative tea ceremony led by Marialicia, which will bring the  participants into the quietude of themselves as a collective. Sharing and being served tea is one of the most ancient and loving arts on the planet. After tea we will take our cultivated energies and meditative states to the mat, where we will lay down and enjoy a sound bath, lead by Andrew, with the crystal singing bowls.

Join me for an evening of beautiful words & song, where I will be performing alongside an incredible troupe of artists:
  • Jenn Forman is a poet, live story teller, social worker, radical life liver, bike rider, and cat lover.  She loves words, story, and believes in the power of brave and fearless expression especially in front of an audience.  She has been published in The Sun, The Timberline Review and VoiceCatcher.

  • Claudia F. Savage is one-half of the performance duo Thick in the Throat, Honey and co-runs the forthcoming music label Thrum Recordings. She's the author of Bruising Continents (Spuyten Duyvil), The Last One Eaten, and, with three other poets, The Hour of Anjali. Her collaboration reductions, about motherhood and ephemerality, with Detroit artist Jacklyn Brickman, will be exhibited November 2017 in Chicago and her writing has also recently been in Water-Stone Review, Nimrod, BOMB, Denver Quarterly, Columbia, Cordella, and Drunken Boat/Anomaly, where she interviews Arab-American poets for the series “Witness the Hour.”  She’s garnered awards from Jentel, Ucross, The Atlantic Center for the Arts, and RACC and lives and teaches with her husband and daughter in Portland, OR. Find her at Claudia F. Savage.

  • Marialicia (Mari) González is a writer, midwife, and leatherworker. She started writing poetry as a child and chose leatherworking in 2016, while searching for new canvases to express herself. She's the founder of http://www.bisonbutterfly.com/ and can be found placing haiku graffiti all around town. Mari has been published in Birth Gazette, Harper & Row Children's Book catalogue, Midwifery Today, and most recently, VoiceCatcher.

  • Mikaela Schey followed the paint drops of her ancestors into the listening heart of Life as Art. Sparked by the deep heights of music and song, she collaborates on the classical guitar and charango with melodic beatboxing and lush vocals, and celebrates creativity as the currency for culture change.

  • Melissa Rain Hobbs has been singing since she was a young child, sending seeds to the future from the rooftops of playground structures. Working with the soulful tones of cello, she now loves using many styles of voice to offer sound as a form of healing. She draws inspiration from her experience with classical chamber chorus, world music ensemble, and solo work in opera, theatre, and jazz. Through improvisation, she approaches music as a language that speaks from the truest parts of ourselves.

As part of Portland artist Erin Leichty's month long exhibit, Re-Connection, we bring you an evening of storytelling. Six women share their stories of finding a way back to themselves after heartache, trauma, and loss. Authentic, emotional and inspiring, join us as we re-connect with ourselves, each other, our stories and our hearts.

Featuring:
Traci Emerson
Leora Marialicia González
Sue Moshofsky
Linda Resca
Monica Welty

About Erin Leichty's April Exhibit:
Re-Connection uses evocative photos of everyday people transferred onto plaster to explore narratives of loss and discovery. Deep within rich layers of texture and cold wax, I bury and uncover the universal story of the need for human connection.
